A Briton who strangled his wife and buried her in suitcase gets 70 years

Alexander Clack, 33, murdered wife Nixian after she discovered he was having an affair and threatened to leave him, a court heard

Alexander Clack, 33, strangled his wife Nixian, put her body in a suitcase and dumped her in a shallow grave after a row when she discovered he was having an affair with their teenage babysitter, the Sunday People reports.

The killing was said to have happened on the couple’s fourth wedding anniversary, when Clack’s wife, a local aged 27, threatened to move out with their two-year-old daughter.

Clack had moved from London to Grenada, where he ran a firm supplying fish to hotels and supermarkets.

The 70-year jail term is one of the strictest ever handed down on the isle of Grenada, where Clark had set up home.

Clack was charged with non-capital murder, meaning he could not have faced the death penalty.

Clack’s father-in-law Elvis Fletcher said outside court in the capital St Georges: “Justice has been served.”

Clack is to serve his time at Grenada’s Richmond Hill prison , reportedly plagued by gang violence.

The trial heard Nixian’s body was found inside a case, and she had suffered 18 separate injuries.

Clack had wept in dock, saying he did not mean to kill his wife who he loved very much.

He told the court how before he put Nixian to rest in the shallow grave he knelt down, bowed his head, affectionately stroked her hair and said he was sorry.

According to a web profile, Clack worked in a North London prison and became a dog handler before moving to Grenada.

He ran SGU Fish Market, which supplies seafood to retailers and the tourism industry on the island.

Clack’s lawyer said after the hearing: “Sympathy goes out to the victim’s family – this was not something that the accused celebrated. He demonstrated his contrition. He said how sorry he was.”

But he added: “We think that the sentence is unusually harsh.”
